PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lysander Pollio (ranked 4009 p4p, 22184 weight class) and Peetu Tam (ranked 435 p4p, 566 weight class). Pollio comes into the arena with I'd Love To Knock The Hell Out Of You blaring out of the sound system. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lysander Pollio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peetu Tam! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pollio bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
It looks like Peetu Tam has been cut. Pollio throws out a loose jab but Tam uses good head movement to avoid it. Pollio tries for a takedown but Tam sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Pollio tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tam paws at him with a jab and circles away. Pollio stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tam. Pollio takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Tam looking to score a takedown here. Pollio is defending well but Tam drives through and ends up in Pollio's guard. Tam is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Tam with a flurry of punches that miss. Pollio doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Pollio thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Tam stays in close to Pollio's body and controls the position. Pollio knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tam on the ground. Pollio striking off his back but it's not causing Tam any problems. Pollio on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pollio tries to get out of the position. Tam is stalling in the full guard. Pollio has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tam can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tam is in close to Pollio's body, working some short punches and elbows. Tam scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Pollio trying to strike off his back.
Tam is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Tam's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Tam keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Pollio's head. Tam controlling from the top position. Pollio looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Pollio is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tam is aware though and is defending well. Tam is stalling in the full guard. Tam is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Tam has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pollio doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tam not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Tam trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tam's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Pollio lands a decent shot there. Tam trying to control the position from guard on top but Pollio is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Tam works over Pollio with some ground and pound from guard. Pollio wants to sweep here but Tam controlling him for the moment. Pollio throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Tam slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pollio is looking to stand up but Tam isn't so interested in that idea. Tam postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Tam stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pollio swivels though and keeps the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tam is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Tam passes Pollio's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Tam has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Tam raining down shots from the mount! Pollio trying to punch from the bottom. They're landing but they're really not going to hurt Tam. Tam trying to control but Pollio is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tam postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pollio looks a forlorn figure.
It looks like Lysander Pollio has been cut. Pollio is in a horrible position here. Tam smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Tam connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Pollio is rocked!
Lysander Pollio's cut is getting worse. Tam with shots to the head and body - Pollio looks very uncomfortable down there. Oh Pollio is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lysander Pollio's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. This has been an exciting period of action! Tam lands a big shot to the head and Pollio winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Peetu Tam! An out of breath Peetu Tam thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
