PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Danny Braxton (ranked 833 p4p, 982 weight class) and Deanthony Pederson (ranked 99 p4p, 127 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Braxton!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Deanthony Pederson!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pederson lands with a right hand.
Braxton scoring well with a low kick there.
Braxton pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Braxton tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pederson lands a nice looking body shot.
Pederson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It looked like Braxton was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Pederson swings for the body but Braxton moves out of range.
Pederson takes one to the chin there.
Pederson throws out a leg kick but Braxton moves out of range and Pederson only half commits.
A little feinted left hand from Braxton on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Pederson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Braxton defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pederson takes one to the side of the head.

Pederson throws a good cross that connects.
We've been told by Braxton's head coaches at Temple of Fitness that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Braxton throws a front kick that sends Pederson stumbling back into the cage.
Pederson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Braxton avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Braxton uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pederson has time to react.
Braxton misses with the combination.

Braxton tries to close the distance and clinch but Pederson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Braxton uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pederson.

Braxton thinks about countering with a body kick.
Pederson throws a body shot but no joy.

Braxton slips a jab from Pederson.
Pederson shoots in looking for a takedown but Braxton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pederson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Danny Braxton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deanthony Pederson.
Pederson looks for a takedown but Braxton sprawls well.
Braxton throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Braxton looks for the body kick but Pederson saw that one coming.
Pederson looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Horrible takedown attempt by Pederson or perhaps it was just good defense by Braxton, which made it look bad.

and Pederson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Braxton's guard.
Braxton wants to sweep here but Pederson controlling him for the moment.

Pederson passes Braxton's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Braxton keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Braxton wants to improve his position but Pederson is controlling well.

Pederson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Braxton wants to improve his position but Pederson is controlling well.

Pederson is working for a kimura but Braxton is defending it quite comfortably.
Braxton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pederson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pederson's back!

Braxton doesn't have the hooks in and Pederson manages to turn into his guard.

Pederson throws a big right hand that misses.

Pederson is taking a breather. Braxton says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
It looks like Pederson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Braxton is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Pederson scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pederson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Braxton!
Braxton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pederson on the ground.

Pederson is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Braxton is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 8:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Deanthony Pederson!
Deanthony Pederson is the new middleweight champion!
After the fight, Deanthony Pederson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
