PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amminus Gregori (ranked 4292 p4p, 4315 weight class) and Cal Ladine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Amminus Gregori!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cal Ladine!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ladine closes the distance and clinches.
Ladine prevents a body shot from Gregori.
Gregori throws a punch but it's blocked by Ladine.

Ladine wants to take the fight to the mat but Gregori manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Ladine blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Gregori has a couple of punches blocked by Ladine.

Ladine has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gregori uses from the top position.
Ladine bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gregori's guard.

Ladine takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Ladine is looking for a kimura but Gregori is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ladine to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ladine content to control rather than advance.
It looks like Ladine might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Ladine looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ladine seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ladine lands strikes from half guard.
Gregori wants to control but Ladine is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gregori wants to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ladine in particular looking to stall.
Gregori has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ladine is working away from the top position though.
Ladine prevents Gregori from improving his position.
Gregori knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ladine on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ladine with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Ladine has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Gregori is looking for a sweep. Ladine is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Gregori is defending against the submission attempts here by Ladine.
Gregori is in trouble now - Ladine has advanced to mount!
Gregori is working to get back to half guard.

Ladine controlling from the full mount.

Ladine is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gregori has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ladine postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gregori looks a forlorn figure.

Ladine is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gregori can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Gregori is bucking up trying to escape but Ladine cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gregori tries to lock up and control but Ladine gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gregori is working to get back to half guard.
Ladine controlling the pace for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ladine quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Ladine but it's paid off an Gregori is forced to tap! Nice work by Ladine.
