PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Carpenter (ranked 22554 p4p, 4750 weight class) and Hyu Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Head has chosen Eye of the tiger as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Carpenter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hyu Head!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter fails in his attempt to clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Head dives in and grabs Carpenter's left leg, looking for a takedown. Carpenter pushes down on Head's head and hops out.

Carpenter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've been hearing that Carpenter has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Head has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carpenter is working away from the top position though.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Still in half guard, Carpenter seems content to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Carpenter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Carpenter is staying tight to Head's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Head tries to bench press Carpenter off him but Carpenter keeps the position.
Carpenter remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carpenter seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Head for as long as he can get away with.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Carpenter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carpenter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Carpenter tries to clinch but Head moves out of range.

Carpenter dives in and scores a takedown into Head's guard.
Carpenter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Carpenter is stalling in the full guard.
Head takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Carpenter.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Carpenter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
