PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 24149 p4p, 24107 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 34 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 30 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buktot throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Buut's waist but Buut gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Buktot off to one side.
Buktot fails with the takedown.
Buut is trying to counter with his kicks.
Buktot misses with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot lands a nice looking body kick.
Buktot shoots in looking for a takedown but Buut manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Buktot's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Buktot leaves Buut with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Buktot is looking to counter with a body kick.

Buktot tries to sprawl but Buut drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Buktot is positioning himself well to prevent Buut advancing to mount.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Buut controlling the action here.

Buktot preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Buut is working away from the top position though.

Buut is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Buut trying to control the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Buktot shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Buktot was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buut is trying to control Buktot's posture but Buktot avoids it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dawindi Buktot will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Buktot misses with a takedown attempt - Buut sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Buut.

Buktot shoots for a takedown but Buut saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Buut gets a takedown into half guard.

Buktot keeping control of the position.
Buut is controlling the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Buktot is pressing down on Buut's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buut controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot is trying to keep Buut in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Nice takedown defense from Buktot. No joy for Buut on that attempt.

Buut bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buktot seems a little lost for a moment, as Buut dominates the positioning.
Buut is looking to take a break and control but Buktot is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buktot can't do much from the bottom here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Buut misses with a takedown attempt
and Buktot counters with a head kick.

Buut shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Buut controlling the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buut not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Buut is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Buut has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Buktot trying to control from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Buut shoots in but no luck this time.
Buktot is looking to counter with a body kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Buut was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Buktot closes this distance looking for a takedown but Buut circles away.
Buut steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Buut keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Buut flicks out a counter leg kick but Buktot steps away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Buut will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown but Buut shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Buut is looking for the big counter here.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Horrible takedown attempt by Buut or perhaps it was just good defense by Buktot, which made it look bad.

Buut gets caught napping as Buktot dives in and scores a takedown. Buut manages to retain guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Walay Buut.
I think Buut has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
