This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 25 wins and 14 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 26 wins and 37 losses; Boris Balkan! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and Russell Pearce.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Balkan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Balkan darts in looking for a takedown but Kulik gets double underhooks and turns Balkan into the cage. Balkan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Kulik (0) vs (2) Balkan Balkan trying to control the pace. Balkan is looking to stall here but Kulik recovers full guard. Balkan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Kulik has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Balkan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kulik is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Balkan wants to free his trapped foot but Kulik is holding on for dear life with his legs. Balkan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. My spies in Blacktalians MMA inform me that Balkan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Balkan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kulik keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kulik wants to hold on but Balkan pushes him away. Balkan working for a guillotine from mount but Kulik is in no mood to give up. Balkan with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Balkan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Balkan trying to control but Kulik is having none of it.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Balkan prevents Kulik from getting the reversal. Kulik is squirming around, avoiding Balkan's attempts to control the action. Balkan controlling the position easily from mount.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Balkan is looking to work his way around to Kulik's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Kulik manages to control the position for a moment. Balkan fails to take his opponent's back. Balkan controlling his opponent. Kulik tries to lock up and control but Balkan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Balkan looking to control but Kulik is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Balkan wants to finish this one by submission but Kulik is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Balkan. Kulik is squirming around, avoiding Balkan's attempts to control the action. Kulik is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kulik sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Balkan is pressing down on Kulik's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kulik is holding on for now. Balkan is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Kulik has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Balkan is working away from the top position though. Balkan works his foot free and advances to mount. Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (0) vs (8) Balkan Kulik really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Balkan fails to advance to Kulik's back.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Balkan trying to control but he's not successful this time. Kulik is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kulik bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kulik (2) vs (8) Balkan Kulik passes into half guard.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kulik stalling. Balkan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kulik jumps into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (5) vs (8) Balkan Balkan is trying to escape the position but Kulik is controlling the position. Kulik wants to control but Balkan is keeping him busy.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Kulik controlling the position. Balkan tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kulik slows the pace down. Balkan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Kulik slows the pace down in half guard. Balkan is trying to maintain the position but Kulik is very close to passing his half guard. Balkan is trying to get back to full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Balkan controlling the position for now.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Balkan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Balkan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kulik is working away from the top position though. Kulik is controlling the pace.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Balkan tries to roll over but Kulik keeps him under control. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Balkan wants to control but Kulik is keeping busy and won't allow it.
