PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Riku Momomoto (ranked 279 p4p, 389 weight class) and Jasper Leeuwenhoek (ranked 37 p4p, 48 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Riku Momomoto!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jasper Leeuwenhoek!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leeuwenhoek throws an off balance right hand
and Momomoto counters with a nice uppercut.
Leeuwenhoek misses with a body shot
and Momomoto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Leeuwenhoek shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Momomoto as he avoids it easily.
Leeuwenhoek shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Momomoto defends it nicely.
Momomoto looks to score with a jab to the body but Leeuwenhoek is just out of range.
Momomoto is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Leeuwenhoek shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Momomoto pinned against the cage. Momomoto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Momomoto was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Riku Momomoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jasper Leeuwenhoek.

Leeuwenhoek rushes Momomoto and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Momomoto blocks an uppercut.

Leeuwenhoek looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Momomoto looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Leeuwenhoek puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Leeuwenhoek perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Leeuwenhoek is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Momomoto has managed to free his arm - good work.
Leeuwenhoek is just content to waste time from the top position. Momomoto takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Leeuwenhoek trying to control the position from guard on top but Momomoto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Leeuwenhoek throws an elbow that misses. Momomoto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Leeuwenhoek's guard. Nice move by Momomoto!


That's two minutes gone in the round.

Leeuwenhoek working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Momomoto doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Momomoto manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Leeuwenhoek lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Momomoto looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Leeuwenhoek sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Momomoto's guard.

Leeuwenhoek is looking to take a break and control but Momomoto is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Leeuwenhoek not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Leeuwenhoek is trying to control. Momomoto wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Leeuwenhoek is working for a submission of some sort.
Leeuwenhoek trying to advance position but Momomoto counters by regaining guard.
Leeuwenhoek wants to control from the top but Momomoto keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Leeuwenhoek stays in close to Momomoto's body and controls the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Leeuwenhoek shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
It looked like Momomoto wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jasper Leeuwenhoek will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Momomoto darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Momomoto gets tackled into the cage by Leeuwenhoek. Leeuwenhoek maintains the clinch.
Momomoto lands a shoulder strike.
Leeuwenhoek can't get the takedown.
Riku Momomoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jasper Leeuwenhoek.

Momomoto breaks from the clinch.
Leeuwenhoek swings widly with a right hand
and Momomoto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Leeuwenhoek shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Momomoto counters with a nice uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Momomoto counters with a nice right hand that sends Leeuwenhoek toppling to the canvas! Leeuwenhoek scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Momomoto finish him?!

Leeuwenhoek gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Momomoto gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Riku Momomoto!
