Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Basset (ranked 2668 p4p, 2728 weight class) and Freddy Jupiter (ranked 305 p4p, 312 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matthew Basset!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Freddy Jupiter!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Basset shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jupiter as he jumps to the side.
Basset moves out of range of the body kick from Jupiter.
Basset displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jupiter.
Jupiter tries a head kick but it misses.
Basset is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Basset has taken the fight to the clinch.

Jupiter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Basset gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jupiter counters with a shoot takedown. Basset fights it but they end up in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Basset controls Jupiter momentarily but Jupiter frees himself.
We've been hearing good reports from Basset's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Basset is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Jupiter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Basset works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Basset is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jupiter defends well.

Jupiter gets to his feet. Basset looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Jupiter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Basset tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jupiter swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Basset tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jupiter defends well and Basset ends up having to push Jupiter into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Basset has momentary wrist control but Jupiter slips an elbow through the middle.
Jupiter throws a big elbow that misses.
Jupiter trying to control the position from guard on top but Basset is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matthew Basset will probably get the nod.

Basset has Jupiter pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Basset pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jupiter tumbling to the mat - Basset dives into Jupiter's guard.

Basset throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jupiter's waist but Jupiter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Basset off to one side.

Basset moves in looking to clinch but Jupiter pushes him off.

Jupiter throws a body shot but no joy.
Basset changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jupiter tries to avoid it but Basset manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jupiter to the ground. Jupiter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Basset tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
No luck for Jupiter with that takedown attempt.
Basset pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jupiter thinks about the counter body kick.
Jupiter shoots for a takedown but Basset saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Basset seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Basset fails in his attempt to clinch.

Jupiter gets caught flat footed, as Basset shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jupiter keeping moving, preventing Basset from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Basset is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jupiter is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Jupiter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jupiter pulls Basset in close to his closed guard and prevents Basset from doing any damage or advancing position.

Jupiter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Basset is in close to Jupiter's body, working some short punches and elbows.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Matthew Basset will probably get the nod.

Jupiter goes for a double leg but Basset avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Basset continues to drive forward.
Matthew Basset has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy Jupiter.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jupiter takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Jupiter pushes a forearm under Basset's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Basset is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
