Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sampson Sullivan (ranked 2706 p4p, 4018 weight class) and Tony Rivers (ranked 390 p4p, 519 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sampson Sullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Rivers!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Rivers shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Sullivan manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Sullivan stuffs the takedown attempt from Rivers. Rivers gets slowly back to his feet.
Rivers moves in looking to clinch but Sullivan pushes him off.
Rivers shoots for a takedown but Sullivan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rivers tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sullivan defends well and Rivers ends up having to push Sullivan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sampson Sullivan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Rivers.

Rivers is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Sullivan dives into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rivers can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sullivan advances nicely into full mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sullivan looking to control and managing it successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sullivan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Sullivan is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rivers can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Sullivan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rivers can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rivers takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Sullivan scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Rivers is rocked!

Sullivan throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Rivers has his hands clasped together but Sullivan breaks the hold and Rivers is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Sullivan!
