The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mesquita shoots in and drives through. Pettersson sprawls well.
Mesquita closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pettersson quickly recovers to half guard.
Pettersson trying to hold on to Mesquita's head to control him but Mesquita postures up.

Pettersson tries to reverse the position but Mesquita maintains control.

Mesquita takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mesquita wants to finish this one by submission but Pettersson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mesquita.
Mesquita has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pettersson is looking to improve his position but Mesquita isn't that keen on the idea.
