PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24081 p4p, 24032 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 35 - 8, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 34 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Sapi fails with a takedown attempt.
Mibangon misses with a takedown attempt - Sapi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon shoots in but no luck this time.
Mibangon darts in looking for a takedown but Sapi gets double underhooks and turns Mibangon into the cage.
Sapi counters with a body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mibangon has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sapi avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Sapi gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mibangon regains guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mibangon wants to sweep here but Sapi controlling him for the moment.
Mibangon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sapi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mibangon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sapi controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mibangon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Nice takedown defense from Mibangon. No joy for Sapi on that attempt.
Mibangon thinks about countering with a body kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sapi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mibangon tries to avoid it but Sapi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mibangon to the ground. Mibangon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mibangon shoots in and drives through. Sapi sprawls well.

Sapi feints and as Mibangon raises his hands in defense, Sapi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mibangon wants to get back to his feet but Sapi passes into half guard.

Sapi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mibangon trying to get back to full guard but Sapi takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sapi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mibangon did well to prevent Sapi getting side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi is taking a breather. Mibangon says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mibangon tries to hold on but Sapi postures up.
Mibangon avoids a series of strikes thrown by Sapi.
Sapi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mibangon is looking to escape.
Mibangon really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sapi content just to control the position here.
Mibangon throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mibangon tries to hold on but Sapi pushes him away.
Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sapi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Sapi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mibangon.
Sapi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mibangon circles away.
Mibangon swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Mibangon is pressing down on Sapi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mibangon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sapi's guard.

Sapi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sapi is controlling Mibangon's posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Sapi stuffs the takedown.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Mibangon manages to step out the way in time.
Mibangon has his takedown stuffed
and Sapi counters with a head kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mibangon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sapi.

Sapi feints and as Mibangon raises his hands in defense, Sapi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Minatay Mibangon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mibangon is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
