It looks like Ricky Steamboat has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Mack in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Steamboat trying to strike off his back.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mack accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mack is working Steamboat over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Mack wants to control from the top but Steamboat keeps moving.
Steamboat is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Steamboat has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Mack should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Steamboat has tightened it up now! Mack should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ricky Steamboat! Ricky Steamboat retains his middleweight title!
