Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Whelan (ranked 2452 p4p, 3590 weight class) and Gary Ian (ranked 290 p4p, 369 weight class). Whelan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Mamas & the Papas - California Dreamin'. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mickey Whelan! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gary Ian! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whelan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ian quickly recovers to half guard. Whelan is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Whelan working for a submission but Ian is keeping him at bay. Whelan is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ian to tap using a forearm choke.
