PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 23768 p4p, 4717 weight class) and Toyotomi Hideyoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 458 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Clifford Val Salvacion has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Clifford Val Salvacion seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 49 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifford Val Salvacion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Toyotomi Hideyoshi!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hideyoshi rushes Salvacion and presses him up against the cage.
Salvacion has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hideyoshi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Hideyoshi has picked Salvacion up - he's going for a ride! Hideyoshi dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hideyoshi in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hideyoshi scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Well, if Hideyoshi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hideyoshi looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Salvacion is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hideyoshi wants to stand up but Salvacion is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hideyoshi is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Salvacion doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Hideyoshi controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hideyoshi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
It looks like Hideyoshi might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Salvacion is trying to keep Hideyoshi in close.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hideyoshi wants to stand but Salvacion has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hideyoshi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hideyoshi just content to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hideyoshi lands an elbow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hideyoshi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Salvacion is fending him off so far but Hideyoshi persists. Nope, Salvacion circles away and we're back to standing.
Salvacion went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Hideyoshi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A counter left hand to the body from Salvacion misses its target.
Hideyoshi dives in and grabs Salvacion's left leg, looking for a takedown. Salvacion pushes down on Hideyoshi's head and hops out.
Clifford Val Salvacion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hideyoshi but Hideyoshi pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hideyoshi shoots in but no luck this time.
Salvacion displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hideyoshi.
Hideyoshi is breathing heavily.

Salvacion closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Salvacion lands in his opponent's guard.
Salvacion wants to control from the top but Hideyoshi keeps moving.
Hideyoshi is pulling down on Salvacion's head to control his posture.
Hideyoshi is continuing to stall.

Salvacion won't allow Hideyoshi to sweep him here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hideyoshi keeping moving, preventing Salvacion from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Hideyoshi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Salvacion pinned against the cage. Salvacion gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
It appears Salvacion was looking to counter with a kick there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hideyoshi fails with a takedown attempt.
Hideyoshi just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromSalvacion.
Salvacion fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Hideyoshi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion trying to hold on to Hideyoshi's head to control him but Hideyoshi postures up.
Hideyoshi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hideyoshi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hideyoshi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Salvacion.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clifford Val Salvacion will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Hideyoshi has taken the fight to the clinch.

Hideyoshi lands a takedown into guard.
Salvacion wants to stand up but Hideyoshi is controlling him.
Hideyoshi wants to pass the guard but Salvacion is keeping the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Salvacion holds on and takes a little breather.

Salvacion is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hideyoshi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hideyoshi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hideyoshi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Salvacion counters with a left and a right that stings Hideyoshi.
Hideyoshi shoots for a double leg takedown but Salvacion sprawls well. He's pushed Hideyoshi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hideyoshi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Salvacion pinned against the cage. Salvacion gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Salvacion throws a quick counter kick to the body but Hideyoshi avoids it.
Clifford Val Salvacion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Hideyoshi darts in looking for a takedown but Salvacion gets double underhooks and turns Hideyoshi into the cage.
Salvacion looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hideyoshi is fending him off so far but Salvacion persists. Nope, Hideyoshi circles away and we're back to standing.
Hideyoshi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Salvacion as he jumps to the side.
As Hideyoshi backs away, Salvacion returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Hideyoshi pushes Salvacion up against the cage in a clinch.

Hideyoshi pulls Salvacion into guard.
Hideyoshi wants to sweep here but Salvacion controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Salvacion trying to control but Hideyoshi is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Toyotomi Hideyoshi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hideyoshi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
