This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 10 losses; Ian Laperierre! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 50 wins and 29 losses; Koryu Miyagi! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and Paul Tew.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Laperierre fails with the takedown. Laperierre looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Laperierre closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Laperierre (4) vs (0) Miyagi Miyagi looks to move to half guard but instead Laperierre has passed into mount! Damn! Score +2 for reaching mount: Laperierre (6) vs (0) Miyagi Miyagi wants to hold on but Laperierre pushes him away. Laperierre wants to control the pace but Miyagi is squirming around nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Miyagi is desperately trying to improve his position but Laperierre has a good base and remains in mount. Laperierre pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Miyagi working to try and regain half guard.
Miyagi is controlling an arm, preventing Laperierre from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Laperierre looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Miyagi is looking to improve his position but Laperierre isn't that keen on the idea.

Laperierre wants to take his opponent's back but Miyagi doesn't allow it. Laperierre takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Miyagi bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Laperierre (6) vs (2) Miyagi We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Miyagi works a leg free and moves into half guard. Laperierre is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Miyagi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Laperierre tries to roll over but Miyagi keeps him under control. Well, if Miyagi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Miyagi keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Laperierre tries to roll over but Miyagi keeps him under control. Laperierre is looking to control Miyagi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Laperierre avoid being mounted?
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Laperierre gets full guard. Laperierre looking for a sweep. Not yet Laperierre, not yet. Miyagi controls from within his opponent's guard. Miyagi advances to half guard.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Miyagi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. More stalling from Miyagi. Laperierre has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miyagi is working away from the top position though. Miyagi content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Laperierre wants to get back to full guard. Miyagi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Miyagi prevents Laperierre from improving his position.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Miyagi moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Laperierre. Score +3 for passing guard: Laperierre (6) vs (5) Miyagi Laperierre is trying to control Miyagi's posture but Miyagi avoids it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Miyagi controls the position.
