Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Basset (ranked 2743 p4p, 2846 weight class) and James Parker (ranked 317 p4p, 331 weight class). James Parker will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matthew Basset! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Parker! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Basset slips under a jab from Parker. Basset throws a sloppy head kick and Parker moves out of range easily. Basset tries to close the distance and clinch but Parker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Basset tries to keep at a distance but Parker has taken the fight into the clinch. Basset tries to pull guard but Parker forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Basset is trying to push Parker away but Parker has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. The referee calls for Parker to work.
Parker swings away with an uppercut that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Parker pulls guard successfully.
Parker has control of Basset's left arm, preventing Basset from doing any damage. Basset with a nice head shot there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Basset throwing strikes but missing. We've been hearing good reports from Basset's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Basset has a takedown stuffed. Parker closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Parker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Basset shoots for a takedown but Parker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Basset. That's going to take a lot out of him. Basset darts in and clinches Parker up against the cage. Parker ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Parker no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Parker keeping moving, preventing Basset from controlling successfully. Basset missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Parker shoots in looking for a takedown. Basset tries to sprawl out of it but Parker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Basset manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Basset attempts a counter takedown but Parker avoids it well and moves away. Parker gets a takedown into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Basset is trying to stand.

Parker closes the distance and clinches up with Basset, looking for a takedown. Parker pushes Basset against the cage but Basset circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Basset seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Basset closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Parker to the mat! Parker manages to get full guard. Basset could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Basset shoots in and drives through. Parker sprawls well. Parker feints the counter takedown. Parker looks for a takedown but Basset sprawls well. Basset pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Parker is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Parker shoots in for a takedown but Basset shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Matthew Basset has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Parker. Basset closes the distance and clinches up with Parker, looking for a takedown. That was a close second round but I would say that Matthew Basset will probably get the nod. That's time! Basset's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Basset is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Parker is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Parker has escaped and now he's on top! Basset is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Parker is controlling him. Parker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Basset is looking to control Parker's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Basset avoid being mounted? Parker decides to return to a standing position. Left hook, right uppercut from Basset. Parker fails to land the takedown.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Parker fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Basset looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Parker shoots in for a takedown but Basset shows good takedown defense. Parker swats away the attempt to clinch by Basset. Parker tries to counter with a clinch but Basset shakes him off and moves away. Basset shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Parker but Parker pushes him off and we're back to square one. Parker changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Parker gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Parker jumps into guard, dragging Basset to the mat.
