Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Venicius Da Cunha (ranked 2743 p4p, 2229 weight class) and Richard James (ranked 311 p4p, 254 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Venicius Da Cunha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard James!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James tests Da Cunha's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Da Cunha gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Da Cunha is looking to control James's arms but James gets an underhook and turns him. Now Da Cunha has his back to the cage.
James lands a body shot.
A short right from James.
James lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Da Cunha backwards.
A right hook to the body lands for James.
James lands a right hand.
Da Cunha trying to stall but James improves his position.

James wants the takedown. Da Cunha is fighting it off but James persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Da Cunha's guard against the cage.

James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
James is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Da Cunha looking for a guillotine here but James defends easily.

James tries to free his leg and advance position but Da Cunha is retaining full guard.

James is stalling here. Da Cunha is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! James seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Da Cunha has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Da Cunha is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well.

Da Cunha goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, James rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Da Cunha's guard! Nice work there by James!

Da Cunha is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Da Cunha is looking for a triangle but James pushes his legs off easily.

James is working Da Cunha over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Da Cunha. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Da Cunha swivels though and keeps the full guard.
James seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Da Cunha is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

James pulls guard effortlessly.

James wants to sweep here but Da Cunha controlling him for the moment.

James drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
James is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Da Cunha's shoulder. That is not cool.

Da Cunha is not content to let James control the position.
James tries to score with some ground and pound. Da Cunha controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Da Cunha rolls with the submission and now he's on top in James's guard! Nice work there by Da Cunha!

James had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Da Cunha defends it easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.

Da Cunha is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Da Cunha is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But James has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from James!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
James wants to control from the top but Da Cunha keeps moving.

Richard James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

James fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Da Cunha sprawls well initially but James persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
James wants to free his trapped foot but Da Cunha is holding on for dear life with his legs.
James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Da Cunha's head.
James misses with a head shot. Da Cunha uses the momentum to regain guard.
James is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Da Cunha working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. James doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. James manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Da Cunha has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Da Cunha's legs - danger averted.
James not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Da Cunha throws a shot from downtown. James moves away and avoids it.
James with the counter takedown but Da Cunha avoids it easily.

James cracks Da Cunha with a good jab.
Da Cunha throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

James closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Da Cunha to the mat! Da Cunha manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Richard James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
