PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Ruiz Mangas (ranked 3512 p4p, 4770 weight class) and Paul Boxaaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mangas might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to I'm a Soldier. Boxaaja has chosen Dark Side - Blind Channel as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ruben Ruiz Mangas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Boxaaja!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mangas shoots in looking for a takedown but Boxaaja manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mangas's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mangas feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Boxaajas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Boxaaja displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mangas.
Boxaaja lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Mangas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mangas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mangas is trying to get an arm triangle but Boxaaja is defending well.
Mangas is looking to take a break and control but Boxaaja is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mangas has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Mangas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Boxaaja's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Boxaaja's back!

Mangas has got his arm under Boxaaja's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Boxaaja has spun round into Mangas's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mangas is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Boxaaja still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Boxaaja has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Mangas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Boxaaja's waist but Boxaaja gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mangas off to one side.

Boxaaja really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mangas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boxaaja pushes Mangas away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mangas gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boxaaja can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mangas takes a little break here. Boxaaja wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Mangas is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Boxaaja looks calm but he's in trouble here. Mangas gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Boxaaja is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Mangas lets go of the hold and Boxaaja can pop his arm back in it's socket.

A very excited looking Ruben Ruiz Mangas made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
