PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Justin Bolivar (ranked 4943 p4p, 4214 weight class) and Wyatt West (ranked 292 p4p, 272 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Justin Bolivar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wyatt West!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bolivar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bolivar looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

West clinches up with Bolivar and pushes him back against the cage.

West gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
West postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
West lands a couple of elbows.

West drops back looking for a leg! Bolivar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bolivar manages to kick West off! West jumps back into Bolivar's guard.
West must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
West stays in close to Bolivar's body and controls the position.
West postures up and lands a big shot to Bolivar's brow.

West decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Bolivar definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Bolivar tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

West is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Bolivar up.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
West is punishing Bolivar with some ground and pound.
West gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

West is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
West has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Bolivar's body.
It looks like West might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

West is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Bolivar has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Bolivar is covering up but some of the strikes from West are getting through and doing damage.

West is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bolivar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

West is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Bolivar up.
West scores with punches from the back.
West lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Bolivar.

West lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Bolivar hold on?!

West is persistently looking for the submission but Bolivar is defending it well.

Bolivar is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if West gets his way!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

West stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Bolivar to get to his feet.

West has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

West tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bolivar just stands there and leans against the cage.
West doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
West has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bolivar avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
West is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Bolivar to keep the fight standing.
Justin Bolivar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wyatt West.

West tries to free his leg and advance position but Bolivar is retaining full guard.

West stands and throws Bolivar's legs to the side, diving into side control.

West decides to stand back up. West steps back and let's Bolivar get back to his feet.

Bolivar gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows West to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells West's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

West winds up and cracks Bolivar with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with West in particular looking to stall.

West is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bolivar has managed to free his arm - good work.

West looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
West wants to pass to mount but Bolivar is defending the position.
West is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Wyatt West showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Bolivar tries to keep at a distance but West has taken the fight into the clinch.
West prevents Bolivar from breaking the clinch.

West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
West lands a two punch combo.
West misses with a double jab.
A quick step to the side and Bolivar tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bolivar doesn't manage to clinch there - West circles away.
Bolivar dodges the punch combination from West.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
West throws a right hand that Bolivar ducks under and follows up with a left that Bolivar also avoids with ease.
Bolivar is looking to clinch.
Justin Bolivar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

West looks to land a combination. Bolivar sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

West shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bolivar's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
West distracts Bolivar with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Bolivar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as West controls the pace.

West gets to his feet. Bolivar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Oh Bolivar is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Bolivar gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

West not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bolivar seems to have got his legs back now.

Bolivar is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
West lands a couple of digs.
West trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
West content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
West passes Bolivar's left leg - he's now in half guard.

West is taking a breather. Bolivar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

West is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

West is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
West working over Bolivar with some ground and pound. Bolivar looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
West lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
West is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
West performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

West lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
West seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

West stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

West feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wyatt West comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well West has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
