Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Djordje Stankovic (ranked 3268 p4p, 24304 weight class) and John Danaher (ranked 417 p4p, 618 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Djordje Stankovic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Danaher! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Valeri Chadov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Danaher tries to clinch but Stankovic is having none of it. Danaher looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Danaher staying out of range there. Stankovic fails to land with a series of punches.
Danaher goes for a double leg but Stankovic avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stankovic continues to drive forward. Danaher shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stankovic sprawls well. Stankovic wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Danaher gets slowly back to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Danaher is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stankovic cracks Danaher with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Stankovic has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Danaher to stand back up!
Danaher is rocked!
It looks like John Danaher has been cut. We've been told by Stankovic's head coaches at Gumburcules Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Stankovic throws a series of punches but Danaher moves out of range. Stankovic misses with a low kick. Danaher tries for a takedown but Stankovic circles away easily and Stankovic counters with a straight right hand. Danaher is still on wobbly legs! Can Stankovic finish him? Djordje Stankovic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Danaher. Stankovic throws a low kick but Danaher avoids it. Danaher seems to have recovered his senses. Stankovic tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Danaher is able to avoid easily. Danaher moves out of range as Stankovic strikes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Stankovic lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Stankovic swings and misses with a hook to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stankovic drops Danaher with a beautiful combination! Danaher stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Stankovic is looking for the KO! Stankovic throws a big shot that misses. Danaher throws a big counter head kick but Stankovic avoids it with no problem. Stankovic throws a monster overhand right that drops Danaher! Stankovic follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Djordje Stankovic! In his post fight interview, Djordje Stankovic started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
