PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diego Santos (ranked 3509 p4p, 3749 weight class) and Ethan Reagan (ranked 440 p4p, 470 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Diego Santos has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Diego Santos seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ethan Reagan!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reagan shoots in looking for a takedown. Santos tries to sprawl out of it but Reagan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Santos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Santos fails with a takedown attempt.

Reagan clinches with his opponent.

Reagan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Santos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Reagan is proving hard to escape from.
Reagan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Santos is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reagan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Santos is aware though and is defending well.
Santos wants to control from the top but Reagan keeps moving.
We've been hearing good reports from Santos's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Reagan is trying to keep Santos in close.
Reagan might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Santos haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Reagan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Santos.
Reagan swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Santos tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reagan swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diego Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Reagan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Reagan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Santos paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A quick step to the side and Santos tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Reagan moves into the clinch.

Santos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Reagan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Santos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Reagan somewhat.
Reagan tries to clinch up.
Santos throws a head kick that misses.
Santos takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Reagan throws a nice head kick!

It looks like Diego Santos has been cut.
Santos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reagan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Reagan changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Reagan throws a series of punches but Santos moves out of range.
Santos is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Santos lands a big head kick that sends Reagan tumbling to the mat! Santos takes a step backwards and waves Reagan back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Ethan Reagan has been cut.
Santos misses the jab.

Santos bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Santos cracks Reagan with a big elbow.

Reagan is rocked!
Reagan tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Santos easily slips into full mount!
Reagan is working to get back to half guard.
Reagan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Santos controlling the position easily from mount.

Santos working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Reagan looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Santos! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Diego Santos!
