PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between The Royal Savage (ranked 3173 p4p, 2285 weight class) and Clay Hayden (ranked 346 p4p, 276 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, The Royal Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 23 - 1, fighting out of London, Clay Hayden!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Hayden throws a counter combo.
Savage lands a lovely overhand right.
Hayden connects with a solid leg kick.
Hayden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Savage manages to avoid it.
Hayden lands a nice looking body shot.
Savage throws a right hand that Hayden ducks under and follows up with a left that Hayden also avoids with ease.
Savage misses with a jab, cross combination.
Savage on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Savage throws a left and a right that both miss
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Savage changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Savage waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hayden.
A shot to the body from Savage misses
and Hayden counters with a three punch combo that has Savage backing up. Savage nods at Hayden to acknowledge the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Savage misses with a body shot.

Hayden drives through with a takedown into Savage's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Hayden trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hayden postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hayden postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hayden trying to control but Savage is working from the bottom.
Hayden is looking to work some ground and pound but Savage has wrist control.
Hayden trying to control but Savage is working from the bottom.
Hayden wants to pass the guard but Savage is keeping the position.
Savage is looking to stand up but Hayden isn't so interested in that idea.
Hayden throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Savage works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hayden throws a strike but Savage rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Savage tries to stand but Hayden is controlling from the bottom.
Hayden has Savage pulled in close to control his posture.

Hayden looking for a guillotine here but Savage defends easily.
Hayden has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hayden looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hayden is adopting a defensive guard.
Hayden working a defensive guard here.
Hayden lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hayden throws a big elbow that misses.
Hayden landing some decent shots from guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hayden throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Savage wants to stand up but Hayden is controlling him.
Hayden trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hayden stands up over Savage, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hayden throwing strikes but missing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Savage utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hayden is pushing down on Savage's leg trying to pass to half guard. Savage is fighting to maintain full guard but Hayden has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Clay Hayden dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Savage misses with a straight left.
Hayden takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Savage lands a left and a right that send Hayden crashing to the mat, dazed. Savage thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Hayden is rocked!
Savage throws out a loose jab but Hayden uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hayden only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Hayden is still on wobbly legs! Can Savage finish him?
Savage misses the shot to the body.
Savage throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Savage misses with an uppercut.
Savage drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Hayden's head, knocking him out cold! Savage is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). The Royal Savage!
A relieved looking The Royal Savage thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
