PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jett Fletcher (ranked 24449 p4p, 5772 weight class) and Chief Waterfall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fletcher comes to the cage accompanied by Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jett Fletcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chief Waterfall!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fletcher shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Waterfall pinned against the cage. Waterfall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
As Fletcher backs off Waterfall throws a huge counter combo but Fletcher manages to avoid it all.
Waterfall throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fletcher lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Waterfall circles away quickly and effectively.
Fletcher tries to clinch but Waterfall moves out of range.

Waterfall moves into the clinch.

Fletcher breaks from the clinch.
Fletcher really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Waterfall pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Waterfall instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fletcher trying to control the position but instead, Waterfall has worked for underhooks and has pushed Fletcher into the cage.

Waterfall successfully pulls guard.
Fletcher has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Waterfall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fletcher definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fletcher trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Waterfall shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fletcher as he jumps to the side.

Fletcher closes the distance and clinches.
Waterfall has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fletcher is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Fletcher is trying to maintain a safe position but Waterfall gets an underhook and turns Fletcher into the cage.

Waterfall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fletcher tries to close the distance and clinch up but Waterfall swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waterfall tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Fletcher defends well and Waterfall ends up having to push Fletcher into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Jett Fletcher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chief Waterfall.
Waterfall misses with a takedown

and Fletcher counters by moving into the clinch.
Waterfall blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Waterfall prevents Fletcher from breaking the clinch.

Waterfall decides to pull guard.
Fletcher tries to free his leg and advance position but Waterfall is retaining full guard.

Waterfall looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Waterfall is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fletcher defends well.

Waterfall seems keen to control Fletcher's posture.
Waterfall is continuing to stall.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Waterfall is on top in guard.

Fletcher is trying to control the position but Waterfall postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chief Waterfall dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Waterfall has a takedown stuffed.
Fletcher shoots in for a double leg but Waterfall sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fletcher has Waterfall up against the cage in a clinch.

Waterfall ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Waterfall no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Waterfall manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fletcher manages to get himself to full guard.

Waterfall wanted to stand there but Fletcher had control of the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Waterfall takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fletcher keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Waterfall passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Fletcher!

Waterfall tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Fletcher tries to get to full guard but Waterfall has control of the leg.
Waterfall has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Waterfall is taking a breather. Fletcher says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Waterfall steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fletcher.
Fletcher sets himself, and Waterfall steps forward looking for the clinch! Fletcher avoids it this time.

Waterfall is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fletcher sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Chief Waterfall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Chief Waterfall is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Chief Waterfall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Waterfall has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
