PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Bird (ranked 5125 p4p, 24532 weight class) and Sauv Ignon (ranked 538 p4p, 592 weight class). Bird comes to the cage accompanied by Dragula - Rob Zombie. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sauv Ignon!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird defending well as Ignon loads up on a big left hand.
A little feinted left hand from Bird on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Bird misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bird lands with a nice body punch.
Bird on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Ignon misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bird.
Bird definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Tim Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ignon blocks a jab.
Ignon punishes Bird's body with a nice straight punch.
Bird tries to score with a low kick but Ignon moves his leg out of the way.
Ignon doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Bird throws a solid leg kick but Ignon takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Bird.
Bird misses with a jab to the body
and Bird takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Bird throws a sloppy body shot
and Ignon counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Ignon avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ignon bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bird's head.
Bird pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ignon lands a nice hook to Bird's body. Bird takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Bird walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Ignon checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Ignon lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Bird steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ignon.
Bird throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Ignon closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bird to the mat! Bird manages to get full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bird is on top in guard.

Bird has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Bird wants to control from the top but Ignon keeps moving.

Ignon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Bird distracts Ignon with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bird trying to control the position from guard on top but Ignon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ignon has his foot on Bird's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bird works his way back into a safe position though.
Bird tries to free his leg and advance position but Ignon is retaining full guard.

Ignon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bird pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ignon is keeping the position for now.
Ignon has his hands on Bird's head, controlling the position.

Bird stands up over Ignon, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Ignon is looking for a triangle but Bird pushes his legs off easily.

Ignon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bird gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ignon throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bird uses it to pass to side control.

Ignon is looking to regain half guard here but Bird keeps moving and retains side control.

Bird looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ignon takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bird working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Ignon struggling a bit here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sauv Ignon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Bird avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bird tries a low kick but Ignon avoids it.
Ignon doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Ignon lands a slapping body shot.
Ignon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A counter left hand to the body from Bird misses its target.
Ignon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ignon darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Bird goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
It seemed like Ignon was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Bird misses with a double jab
and Ignon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bird throws a leg kick that is checked
and Ignon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ignon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bird is trying to defend but Ignon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Still in half guard, Ignon seems content to control.

The fighters are battling for position here. Bird manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Bird can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ignon controls the pace.
Bird controls Ignon momentarily but Ignon frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ignon forces his way into half guard.
Bird is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Ignon is looking to take a break and control but Bird is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ignon works his way into full mount!
Ignon trying to control but Bird is having none of it.
Bird manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Bird throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Ignon trying to pass the guard but Bird defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ignon slows the pace down in half guard.
Ignon wants to pass to mount but Bird is defending the position.
Bird is refusing to be controlled, as Ignon sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bird is looking to improve his position.
Ignon not doing much here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bird scores with the left hand. Ignon knows he should have avoided that one.

Ignon drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bird working a defensive guard here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bird is on top in guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bird stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ignon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sauv Ignon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Good shot there by Bird.
Ignon displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bird throws out the jab.
Ignon connects with a looping right hand.
Ignon throws a hook but Bird avoids it easily.
Bird swings away with a body shot that misses
and Ignon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Bird fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ignon has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Ignon blocks a low kick nicely.
Ignon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bird throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Bird misses with a left hand
and Ignon counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and Ignon counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ignon looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Sauv Ignon seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Ignon is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Ignon has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ignon there as he acknowledges the shot.
Bird uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ignon.
Bird lands a lovely overhand right.

Ignon is rocked!
Bird lands a body shot.
Ignon uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bird.
Bird throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Ignon crashing down! Ignon tries to stagger back to his feet but Bird just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Ignon asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tim Bird!
Tim Bird decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
