The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cheadle fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wood wants to clinch.
Wood pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cheadle will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kyle Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cheadle tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wood swivels and escapes.

Wood wants to stand and escape but Cheadle is having none of it.
Wood is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Wood can't keep his opponent in guard - Cheadle advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cheadle is pressing down on Wood's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wood is holding on for now.

Cheadle is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Cheadle seems to be looking for submissions.
Cheadle is breathing heavily.
Cheadle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wood does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wood moves out of range of the body kick.
Wood looks to clinch

and Cheadle counters by clinching up.
Wood landing knees to the head.

Wood lands a damaging elbow.

Wood lands a body punch.
Wood using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cheadle has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Wood breaks from the clinch.
Wood closes the distance but Cheadle moves to the side
and Cheadle counters with a right hand to the body.
Wood tries to clinch up.
Wood is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cheadle throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wood's waist but Wood gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cheadle off to one side.

Wood tries to clinch up but Cheadle circles away and keeps his distance.
Cheadle connects with a solid leg kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wood circles away from the clinch attempt
and Wood counters with a nice body kick.
Cheadle tries a head kick but it misses.
Wood tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Cheadle counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wood is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cheadle is controlling him well.
Cheadle is looking to take a break and control but Wood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wood is trying to buck Cheadle off.
Cheadle wants to control but Wood is keeping him busy.
Wood takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Wood tries to clinch up but Cheadle circles away and keeps his distance.

Cheadle shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wood but Wood pushes him off and we're back to square one.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wood can do anything to dispel that myth.
