Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lom Ali Maskhadov (ranked 2947 p4p, 3812 weight class) and Kadyn Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lom Ali Maskhadov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kadyn Smith! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith moves into the clinch. Smith manages to pull guard.
Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maskhadov defends well. Smith keeping moving, preventing Maskhadov from controlling successfully. Maskhadov tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard. Maskhadov trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maskhadov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smith is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Smith turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Maskhadov wants to control but Smith postures up. A lull in the action here. Maskhadov is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it. Maskhadov is looking to reverse the position. Smith remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Maskhadov can't do much from the bottom here. Smith moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Maskhadov looking to control.
