PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23927 p4p, 23861 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yawa Kiang has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 40 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 39 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Nada scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kiang wants to improve his position but Nada is controlling well.
Kiang trying to control but Nada postures up.
Nada takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nada missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Nada fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kiang to the ground. Nada is now in Kiang's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang is controlling Nada's posture.
Nada content to stall in guard here.

Nada trying to control the position from guard on top but Kiang is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Nada is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kiang dives in for a single leg takedown but Nada sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Nada has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kiang is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kiang is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Nada is defending well.
Nada has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kiang avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Nada drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kiang pulls his leg out and moves away.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

Kiang gets a takedown into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kiang shoots in and drives through. Nada sprawls well.
Nada shoots in for a double leg but Kiang sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nada or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad.

Nada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiang as he avoids it easily.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
Kiang shoots for a double leg takedown but Nada sprawls well. He's pushed Kiang's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Nada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kiang's waist but Kiang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nada off to one side.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiang sprawls well. Kiang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nada gets slowly back to his feet.

and Nada counters with a shoot takedown. Kiang fights it but they end up in guard.

Nada sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Kiang looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nada is fighting to break Kiang's control of his arms but Kiang is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Nada postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Kiang looking for a sweep. Not yet Kiang, not yet.
Kiang utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Nada cracks Kiang with a solid left hand.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kiang goes for a double leg but Nada avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nada continues to drive forward.
Nada is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Nada tries for a takedown but Kiang manages to get underhooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nada changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kiang fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kiang.
Nada counters with a body kick.
Kiang shoots in for a takedown but Nada shows good takedown defense.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Nada fails with a takedown attempt.
Nada will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kiang is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Nada tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kiang swivels and escapes.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

and Kiang makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Kiang misses with a takedown attempt - Nada sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nada is trying to counter with his kicks.

Kiang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kiang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kiang wants to control but Nada is keeping him busy.

Nada is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it.
Nada is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Nada is looking to regain half guard here but Kiang keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kiang's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Kiang controlling the action here.
Nada wants to control but Kiang is keeping busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Nada looking to score a takedown here. Kiang is defending well but Nada drives through and ends up in Kiang's guard.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Kiang is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
