PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Montrese Andersson (ranked 1185 p4p, 2207 weight class) and Doofy McGriff (ranked 159 p4p, 273 weight class). Andersson comes into the arena with Wax -- Who Is Next blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGriff delivers a nice body kick.
Andersson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McGriff finds it's way round the side to connect with Andersson's head.
Andersson moves into range and connects with a jab.
McGriff throws a big shot that misses.
Andersson misses with a hook
and McGriff counters with a nice uppercut.
McGriff throws a body shot but no joy.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGriff can do anything to dispel that myth.
McGriff is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Andersson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Andersson's back!

A quick step to the side and Andersson tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Andersson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
McGriff bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Andersson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
McGriff scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Andersson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Andersson there as he acknowledges the shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

McGriff felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Andersson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… McGriff is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by McGriff and Andersson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Andersson wants to improve his position but instead McGriff has moved into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McGriff in particular looking to stall.

Andersson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But McGriff has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from McGriff!
Doofy McGriff is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

McGriff controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Andersson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McGriff is aware though and is defending well.

McGriff got a little sloppy there for a moment and Andersson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McGriff has managed to get both his arms back between Andersson's legs - danger averted.

Andersson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
