PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tre Jokinen (ranked 1488 p4p, 1271 weight class) and Vic Romano (ranked 201 p4p, 171 weight class). Romano has chosen MXC Most Extreme Challenge as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tre Jokinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vic Romano!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romano wants to clinch up but Jokinen keeps it at a distance.
Jokinen is looking to counter the offense by Romano and move into the clinch.
Romano keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

It looks like Tre Jokinen has been cut.
Romano digs a good body shot into Jokinen's ribs.
Romano misses the body punch

and Jokinen moves into the clinch.
Romano pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Jokinen prevents a body shot from Romano.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Jokinen.
Romano tries to pull guard but Jokinen won't allow it.
Romano gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Romano swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Romano tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Romano jumps guard but Jokinen stands there with Romano around his waist. Romano gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A head punch on the inside from Romano fails to land.
Romano swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Romano manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Romano tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Jokinen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Romano is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jokinen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jokinen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jokinen is working Romano over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Romano is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Romano lands a nice short elbow.
Jokinen is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Romano's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Romano's back!
Jokinen seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Jokinen keeps control of the position as Romano tries to break free.
Romano is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Jokinen off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Jokinen doesn't have the hooks in and Romano manages to turn into his guard.

Romano won't allow Jokinen to sweep him here.

Romano must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jokinen keeping moving, preventing Romano from controlling successfully.
Jokinen wants to improve his position but instead Romano has moved into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Romano connects with a nice short shot to Jokinen's temple.
Jokinen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Romano looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jokinen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Romano is keen to just control but Jokinen is a slippery customer.

Romano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jokinen keeps working.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Romano cracks Jokinen with a solid left hand.
Romano throws a strike but Jokinen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Romano is on top in guard.

Romano throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jokinen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Romano stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Jokinen throws up his legs and catches Romano in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Romano tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Jokinen! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Tre Jokinen!
A relieved looking Tre Jokinen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
