The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shields misses with a head kick.
Shields tries to clinch there but Wattson circles away.
Shields tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Shields wants to clinch up but Wattson keeps it at a distance. Shields is looking to clinch but Wattson is avoiding it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shields looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Wattson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. A head kick misses from Shields. Shields throws a head kick but Wattson moves out of range.
Shields is looking to clinch. Shields jabbing away but nothing is landing. Shields misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shields fails in his attempt to clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shields is looking to clinch but Wattson is avoiding it.
Shields fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Wattson checks it well. Shields tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Shields throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Wattson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Wattson tries to free his leg and advance position but Shields is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wattson passes Shields's left leg - he's now in half guard. Wattson trying to mount his opponent but Shields defends it. Wattson is looking for a kimura but Shields is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wattson to get the leverage. Shields is looking to escape. Wattson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shields doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wattson. Wattson works his foot free and advances to mount. Shields is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Wattson working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Shields turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Wattson off and cradles Shields's limp body as Wattson celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Steve Wattson!
