PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Spartan (ranked 2544 p4p, 1856 weight class) and Jim Lahey (ranked 353 p4p, 272 weight class). Spartan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Try That in a Small Town. Jason Spartan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason Spartan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Lahey!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lahey lands a body shot.
Spartan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lahey's waist but Lahey gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Spartan off to one side.
Lahey misses with a series of wild punches.
A left lands for Lahey.
Jim Lahey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spartan tries to close the distance and clinch but Lahey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lahey misses with the combination.
Lahey tests Spartan's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Spartan rushes Lahey and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Lahey lands a shot to the body.
Lahey tries to throw a body punch but Spartan avoids it by throwing Lahey back against the cage.
Spartan is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lahey is defending well.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Lahey as Spartan tries to tie him up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A right hand to the body from Lahey.
Lahey throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Spartans head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Lahey creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Lahey tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Lahey can't find room to land a body shot as Spartan controls the action.
Lahey struggles to land a body shot inside as Spartan controls his hands.

Spartan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lahey lands with an uppercut that bounces Spartan off the cage and back into range.
Lahey sizes up Spartan with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Horrible takedown attempt by Spartan or perhaps it was just good defense by Lahey, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Spartan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lahey fails to land with a series of punches.
Spartan takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Lahey rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Spartan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A head kick misses from Spartan.
Lahey misses with a wild combination.
Lahey misses with a double jab.
Spartan throws a quick counter head kick but Lahey was just out of range.
Spartan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lahey misses with a series of wild punches.
Spartan misses with a jab, cross combination.
Lahey swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Lahey feints a jab promting Spartan to slip. Lahey then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Spartan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Lahey looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Lahey wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Spartan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Spartan seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Lahey lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Spartan backs up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Spartan shoots for a takedown but Lahey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lahey lands with a nice combination. Spartan backs away looking to recover.
Lahey stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lahey wants it to stay on the feet.

Lahey drops Spartan with a beautiful combination! Spartan stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Lahey is looking for the KO!

Spartan is rocked!
Jim Lahey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lahey throws a nice looking combination but Spartan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lahey lands a big right hook! Spartan looks hurt but is still standing! Lahey lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Spartan falls down and Lahey dives in with a huge hammer fist! Spartan's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Lahey runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jim Lahey!
A relieved looking Jim Lahey thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
