PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Ostrowski (ranked 3966 p4p, 4861 weight class) and Kyle McKenna (ranked 456 p4p, 521 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Ostrowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle McKenna!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ostrowski gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ostrowski is trying to force a seperation but McKenna has the dominant position.

McKenna ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McKenna no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Ostrowski throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McKenna works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ostrowski wants to control from the top but McKenna keeps moving.
Ostrowski won't allow McKenna to get back to his feet.
McKenna tries to land a sweep but no joy.
McKenna keeping moving, preventing Ostrowski from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ostrowski lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
McKenna pulls Ostrowski in close to prevent any damage.

Ostrowski avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ostrowski looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

McKenna bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

McKenna thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ostrowski is trying to improve his position.
McKenna creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ostrowski sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Ostrowski is trying to control McKenna's posture but McKenna avoids it.

You can see the frustration on Ostrowski's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

McKenna tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McKenna has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
McKenna wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ostrowski keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ostrowski is looking to regain half guard here but McKenna keeps moving and retains side control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ostrowski is looking for a sweep. McKenna is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McKenna lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Ostrowski trying to get back to full guard but McKenna takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
McKenna wants to control but instead Ostrowski manages to regain half guard.

Ostrowski is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McKenna pulls his head out easily.

Ostrowski on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
McKenna stalling.
McKenna seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ostrowski does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
McKenna might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ostrowski haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
McKenna wants to stand but Ostrowski has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ostrowski tries to close the distance and clinch but McKenna swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

McKenna has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McKenna tries a head kick but it misses.
Ostrowski is looking to counter the offense by McKenna and move into the clinch.

Ostrowski gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

McKenna can't keep his opponent in guard - Ostrowski advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Ostrowski wants to pass the guard but McKenna is defending well.

Ostrowski shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
McKenna moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ostrowski fails to land the takedown.
And McKenna responds with a good body kick, but Ostrowski manages to step out the way in time.

McKenna has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

McKenna swats away the attempt to clinch by Ostrowski.
Jake Ostrowski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McKenna throws a leg kick but Ostrowski checks it.
McKenna leaves Ostrowski with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

McKenna shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ostrowski is trying to defend but McKenna finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ostrowski is looking to escape.
Jake Ostrowski has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
McKenna content to control rather than advance.
Let's hope that McKenna has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

McKenna wants to free his trapped foot but Ostrowski is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kyle McKenna comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McKenna has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
