This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 35 wins and 13 losses; Abu Schaubi! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 123 wins and 66 losses; Matvey Pavlov! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Pavlov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Schaubi pinned against the ropes. Schaubi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Schaubi is looking to counter the offense by Pavlov and move into the clinch. Pavlov fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Matvey Pavlov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schaubi pushes Pavlov up against the ropes in a clinch. Pavlov has Schaubi pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Schaubi manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Abu Schaubi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matvey Pavlov. Schaubi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pavlov uses from the top position. Pavlov trying to control but Schaubi is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schaubi looking for a sweep. Not yet Schaubi, not yet. Pavlov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schaubi swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pavlov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schaubi is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Pavlov content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Schaubi has locked up a guillotine! Schaubi's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Pavlov is holding on here and Schaubi must be using up a lot of energy. Pavlov has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Schaubi gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
