PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23880 p4p, 23838 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 39 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 33 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Buut shoots in and bounces Buktot off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Buktot trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Buktot is adopting a defensive guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buktot has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Buut has passed into side control.
Buktot wants to control but Buut postures up.
Buktot is letting Buut control him for a moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
You can see the frustration on Buktot's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Buut shoots in and drives through. Buktot sprawls well.

Buut gets a takedown into half guard.
Buut not doing much here.
It looks like Buut might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Buktot desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Well, if Buut is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Buktot looks to throw a body kick
and Buut counters with a three punch combo that has Buktot backing up. Buktot nods at Buut to acknowledge the strikes.
Buktot shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Buut pinned against the cage. Buut gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Buut as he jumps to the side.
Buut follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buut fails with a takedown attempt.
Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Buut avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Buktot shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Buktot was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Buktot wants to lay and pray for a moment but Buut keeps working.
Buut being controlled for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buut is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Buktot's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Buut is doing well to control the position and prevent Buktot from advancing to side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Buut keeping hold of Buktot's head, controlling as best he can.
Buktot keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Buut stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Buut wants it to stay on the feet.
And Buut responds with a good body kick, but Buktot manages to step out the way in time.

and Buut counters with a nice kick to the body.

Buktot shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Buut is trying to defend but Buktot finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Buut wants to control but Buktot is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Buut keeps trying to improve his position.
Buut is doing well to control the position and prevent Buktot from advancing to side control.
Buktot slips a nice elbow through Buut's hands, connecting with Buut's forehead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Buktot looks for a takedown but Buut sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Buktot shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Buut defends it nicely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Buktot.
Buut is trying to control Buktot's posture but Buktot avoids it.

Buut is looking for a sweep.
Buktot takes a little break here. Buut wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Dawindi Buktot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Buktot has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dawindi Buktot showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Buut has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
