Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yamada Taro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Stevenson!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevenson stuffs the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - Taro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Taro throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Stevenson tries for a takedown but Taro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Stevenson counters with a straight right hand.

Stevenson tries to clinch there but Taro circles away.

Stevenson wants to stand but Taro is controlling his posture from full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stevenson wants to stand but Taro has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Taro is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Stevenson jumps into side control!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Stevenson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Taro throws a front kick that sends Stevenson stumbling back into the cage.

Stevenson motions for Taro to come forward. Stevenson throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Taro takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Taro pulls Stevenson into guard.

Stevenson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Taro, up you get!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Taro is on top in guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stevenson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Stevenson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Taro wants to stand and escape but instead Stevenson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Taro wants to control the position but Stevenson says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Taro is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Stevenson pulls his head out easily.

Stevenson stands up and beckons Taro to join him on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Stevenson moves into the clinch.
Taro tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Taro connects with a looping right hand.
Stevenson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Taro counters with a nice body kick.
Yamada Taro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stevenson throws an off balance right hand
and Taro counters with an inside leg kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Taro.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Taro drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stevenson pulls his leg out and moves away.
No joy there for Taro, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Stevenson is breathing heavily.

Taro shoots in but Stevenson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stevenson fails to land with a series of punches.
Stevenson throws a combination that misses
and Taro counters with a big head kick but Stevenson shrugs it off.
Taro throws a sloppy head kick and Stevenson moves out of range easily.
Stevenson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Taro gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Stevenson counters with a stiff right hand.

Stevenson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Stevenson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Taro to stand up.

and Taro decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stevenson's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stevenson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Taro lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Taro has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Stevenson controls Taro momentarily but Taro frees himself.
Stevenson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Taro's guard.
Taro wants to stand and escape but Stevenson is having none of it.

Stevenson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Taro's head.

Stevenson gets to his feet. Taro looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Taro counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Taro.
Stevenson tries to pull guard but Taro holds him up against the cage and eventually Stevenson drops back down to his feet.
Stevenson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Taro gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Taro pulls Stevenson into guard.

Stevenson stands up and waves to Taro to follow him.
Stevenson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Stevenson slips a nice elbow through Taro's hands, connecting with Taro's forehead.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stevenson is tying to control. Taro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Taro wants to get back to his feet.
Taro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stevenson on the ground.
Stevenson slips a nice elbow through Taro's hands, connecting with Taro's forehead.

A close second round but Michael Stevenson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Taro escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Taro tries for a takedown but Stevenson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Stevenson throws a body kick that misses.
Taro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stevenson as he avoids it easily.

and Stevenson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Taro's guard.

Stevenson misses with an uppercut. Taro saw that one coming.

Stevenson tries to land a front kick but Taro steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and Stevenson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Taro misses with a takedown
and Stevenson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Stevenson jabs Taro right on the nose. Taro blinks but takes it well.
Taro misses with the combination.
Taro throws a series of punches but Stevenson moves out of range.
Taro goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Taro clinches up with Stevenson and pushes him back against the cage.

Taro manages to break the clinch.
Taro fails with the takedown
and Stevenson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nice takedown defense from Stevenson. No joy for Taro on that attempt.

Taro gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Taro wants to hit a switch here but Stevenson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Taro there!

Taro is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Taro sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Taro is looking for a triangle but Stevenson pushes his legs off easily.
Taro is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stevenson is controlling him.

Stevenson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Taro tries to clinch but Stevenson is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Taro ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Taro doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Stevenson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Yamada Taro has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stevenson cracks a nice hook into Taro's ribs.

And that's the end of the fight!
Michael Stevenson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Stevenson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
