Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cactus Jack (ranked 2586 p4p, 3417 weight class) and Christian Liars (ranked 301 p4p, 393 weight class). Cactus Jack had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Cactus Jack! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Christian Liars! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jack digs a good body shot into Liars's ribs. Liars stuffs the takedown. Liars ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jack moves away. Liars looks to score with a jab to the body but Jack is just out of range. Jack changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Cactus Jack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Liars tries to keep at a distance but Jack has taken the fight into the clinch. Liars breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jack is looking to chop away at Liars's legs. Liars lands a slapping body shot.
Jack changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Liars tries to avoid it but Jack manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Liars to the ground. Liars escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Jack shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Liars pinned against the cage. Liars gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cactus Jack. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sloppy strikes from Jack. Those never looked like landing. Liars tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jack was well out of range. Poor timing from Liars. It looked like Jack was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Jack throws out a leg kick but Liars moves out of range and Jack only half commits. Liars misses with a straight left. Jack wants to clinch.

Jack tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Liars counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Jack ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Jack went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Liars changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Liars is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Jack rather than just go for the knockout. Jack shoots in and drives through. Liars sprawls well. Jack misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Jack needs to keep his hands up - Liars had a free shot at his head there. Jack fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Liars leaves Jack with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jack shoots in looking for a takedown. Liars tries to sprawl out of it but Jack keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Liars manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Jack throws a right and a left that both miss. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jack tries to close the distance and clinch up but Liars swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jack slips a jab from Liars. Liars swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Jack shoots in looking for a takedown but Liars manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jack's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Good exchange - Liars coming out on top. Jack checks a low kick from Liars. Liars feints and as Jack raises his hands in defense, Liars changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Jack is trying to keep Liars in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Liars slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Liars must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Liars trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Liars wants to control from the top but Jack keeps moving. Jack looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Jack tries to free his leg and advance position but Liars is retaining full guard. Jack throws a big elbow that misses. Jack throws a big right hand that misses. Jack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Jack has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Liars preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jack stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Liars swivels though and keeps the full guard. Liars keeping moving, preventing Jack from controlling successfully. Jack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Liars can do anything to dispel that myth. Liars keeping full guard, as Jack tries to pass. Jack throwing strikes from guard but Liars blocks nicely. It looks like Christian Liars has been cut. Liars stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Liars wants it to stay on the feet. Jack wants to clinch up but Liars keeps it at a distance. Jack is looking to clinch. Jack looks to land a combination. Liars sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Jack misses with a takedown and Liars counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jack thinking.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jack tries to score a power double leg takedown but Liars sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jack somewhat. Jack misses with a series of wild punches.

Jack will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Liars is looking for a sweep. Jack is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Liars desperately trying to maintain half guard. Jack is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Liars is just riding it out for now. Jack eventually gives up the hold. Liars moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Liars is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jack accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Liars is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Jack trying to control the position from guard on top but Liars is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Liars manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jack manages to get himself to full guard.
