Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Burns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jacob Fuisse! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fuisse shoots in but no luck this time. Burns shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Burns is looking for a kimura but Fuisse is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Burns to get the leverage. Fuisse moves into full guard.
Fuisse looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fuisse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fuisse looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fuisse is looking for a triangle but Burns pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burns preventing the sweep. Burns wants to pass the guard but Fuisse is keeping the position. Fuisse keeping moving, preventing Burns from controlling successfully. Fuisse tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fuisse is still trying to improve position. Burns won't allow Fuisse to get back to his feet. Burns has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Fuisse wants to sweep here but Burns controlling him for the moment. Burns wants to control from the top but Fuisse keeps moving. Fuisse lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Fuisse sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Burns's guard. Burns is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fuisse pulls his head out easily. Burns looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fuisse looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Burns with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Fuisse trying to pass the guard but Burns defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Burns slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Fuisse landing some decent shots from guard. Fuisse throws a big elbow that misses. Fuisse missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Fuisse forces his way into half guard. Fuisse lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Fuisse winds up and cracks Burns with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns looking for submissions off his back. Fuisse has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Fuisse working Burns over with strikes here. Fuisse jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Burns manages to avoid the submission attempt. Burns is looking for a sweep. Fuisse scores with punches from side control. Burns is trying to improve his position. Fuisse looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fuisse has knee on belly and moves into mount. Fuisse looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Burns is rocked! Fuisse loads up with a big shot that hurts Burns! He's pulled Fuisse in close but Fuisse has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Burns survive? More strikes from Fuisse and Burns is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
