Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dusty Mulkey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy McNulty! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Anthony Taglia and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mulkey leaves McNulty with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mulkey wants to clinch up but McNulty keeps it at a distance. Mulkey doesn't manage to clinch there - McNulty circles away.
McNulty throws a hook but Mulkey blocks it. McNulty scores with a takedown into Mulkey's guard. McNulty wants to pass the guard but Mulkey is keeping the position. Mulkey is looking to stand up but McNulty isn't so interested in that idea. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McNulty accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McNulty lands a couple of decent looking shots. McNulty has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. McNulty trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mulkey tries to land a sweep but no joy. Mulkey keeping moving, preventing McNulty from controlling successfully.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mulkey tries to clinch there but McNulty circles away.
McNulty shoots in but no luck this time. Dusty Mulkey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mulkey throws a head kick that misses. Mulkey tries to clinch up. Mulkey wants to clinch up but McNulty keeps it at a distance. McNulty lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Mulkey at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Mulkey is looking to clinch. McNulty shoots in for a double leg but Mulkey sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Dusty Mulkey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy McNulty. Mulkey pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McNulty circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mulkey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. McNulty is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. McNulty pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mulkey is keeping the position for now. McNulty is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McNulty is working Mulkey over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mulkey preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. McNulty wants to control from the top but Mulkey keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mulkey wants to sweep here but McNulty controlling him for the moment. Mulkey wants to stand and escape but McNulty is having none of it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mulkey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mulkey showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from McNulty.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. McNulty tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mulkey was well out of range. Poor timing from McNulty. McNulty throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McNulty rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mulkey moves out of range and avoids them all easily. McNulty shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mulkey defends it nicely. Mulkey tries to close the distance and clinch but McNulty swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mulkey uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McNulty. McNulty avoids the head kick by Mulkey.
That's five minutes gone in the round. McNulty takes a swing at Mulkey's ribcage but misses. Mulkey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. McNulty fails to land with a series of punches.
McNulty swats away the attempt to clinch by Mulkey. Mulkey dodges the punch combination from McNulty.

That's six minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. McNulty feints and as Mulkey raises his hands in defense, McNulty changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Mulkey has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes McNulty off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Mulkey on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. McNulty fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mulkey, pushing him back against the cage. Mulkey throws a knee to the head but misses.

Mulkey is breathing heavily. Mulkey keeps the fight in the clinch, despite McNulty's efforts to push away. Mulkey using the Thai plumb to throw knees but McNulty has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mulkey lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
McNulty looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. McNulty is looking to break free of the clinch but Mulkey has double underhooks. Mulkey scores with a knee to the head.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mulkey. McNulty wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

McNulty drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mulkey gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mulkey throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but McNulty blocks it with crossed arms. McNulty is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mulkey pulls him back up using the underhooks. Mulkey tries a knee to the head but McNulty blocks it.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mulkey landing some nice looking knees to the body.
McNulty turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and McNulty manages to end up in side control. McNulty working the ground and pound but Mulkey is defending the strikes. Mulkey on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mulkey tries to get out of the position. Mulkey wants to control but McNulty postures up. Mulkey takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. McNulty throws an elbow but Mulkey slips to the side and avoids it well. McNulty lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Mulkey is not in a great position here, taking some shots. You can see the frustration on Mulkey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Check out the look on McNulty's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mulkey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. McNulty drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. McNulty looks up at the clock and then as Mulkey takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, McNulty smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Mulkey can't do much from the bottom here. McNulty creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. McNulty tries to score with some ground and pound. Mulkey controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Mulkey sneaks out the side door and pushes McNulty away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. McNulty fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Crunch! Mulkey slams his shin into McNulty's torso. McNulty throws a body punch but Mulkey moves out of range. Dusty Mulkey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mulkey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
And that's the end of the fight! Jimmy McNulty comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think McNulty has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
