PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kulata Bitok (ranked 23815 p4p, 4226 weight class) and Cole Lake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lake has chosen Panic Attack as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 43 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cole Lake!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lake lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lake.
Lake goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Lake feints a jab promting Bitok to slip. Lake then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Bitok slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Lake closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bitok to the mat! Bitok manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bitok controls Lake momentarily but Lake frees himself.
Bitok preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lake stands and steps away. Bitok gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Lake clinches.

Lake has clasped his hands together around Bitok's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Lake lands a few punches from side control.

Lake decides to stand back up. Lake steps back and let's Bitok get back to his feet.

Lake lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bitok circles away quickly and effectively.
Bitok quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Lake misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bitok thinks about countering with a body kick.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lake accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lake gets to his feet - Bitok follows without any prompting.

Well, if Lake is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Lake throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Lake winds up and cracks Bitok with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Lake throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bitok is breathing heavily.
Lake drops an elbow to the side of Bitok's head.
Well, if Lake is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lake slips a nice elbow through Bitok's hands, connecting with Bitok's forehead.
Bitok knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lake on the ground.
Lake lands strikes from half guard.
Bitok is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Lake scores with a couple of nice shots.
Bitok is looking to improve his position.
Lake looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bitok with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lake connects with a nice short shot to Bitok's temple.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Cole Lake dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lake lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Bitok gets tackled into the cage by Lake. Lake maintains the clinch.
Bitok has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lake avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Lake is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bitok can't fight it off and eventually Lake manages to take the fight to the floor. Bitok looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lake has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lake chips away with some ground and pound.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lake seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Lake looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lake slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Lake makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Lake gets to his feet - Bitok follows without any prompting.
Bitok takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Lake!
Lake misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Lake fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bitok quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Lake is trying to trip Bitok. He has hold of a leg but Bitok is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lake persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Lake lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lake's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Lake stands up over Bitok, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Lake has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lake has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Bitok regains guard immediately.

Lake is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Cole Lake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A quick step to the side and Bitok tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
