The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Matheus Silva and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Partos throws out a leg kick but Simpson moves out of range and Partos only half commits.
Simpson moves in looking to clinch but Partos pushes him off.
Partos misses with a wild combination.
Partos closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Partos lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Partos content to stall in guard here.

Simpson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Partos is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Simpson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Partos's back instead.
Partos breaks Simpson's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

RIch Partos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Partos in particular looking to stall.
Partos has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Partos is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Partos's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Partos uses his free foot to push down on Simpson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Simpson.
