PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Deon Graves (ranked 2391 p4p, 2514 weight class) and Sergei Borisov (ranked 287 p4p, 303 weight class). Graves comes into the arena with THE ZOO blaring out of the sound system. The key to victory for Deon Graves has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deon Graves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sergei Borisov!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Borisov misses with a body shot
and Borisov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Graves avoids the body shot from Borisov.
Graves walks into a left hand.
Graves definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Borisov throws a poor cross that misses
and Graves counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Graves waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Borisov. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Borisov to the canvas! Can he finish him!?

Graves is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Borisov can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Borisov can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Graves has hold of Borisov's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Borisov manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Graves is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Borisov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Borisov for a finish.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Graves is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Borisov defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Borisov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Graves looking to break Borisov's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Borisov remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Graves will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Borisov is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Graves off. It looks like it's working - Graves slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Borisov displaying calm under pressure there.

Borisov catches Graves with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Graves counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Graves scores with a decent looking hook.
Borisov misses the jab.
It looked like Graves wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Borisov drops his hands for a split second and Graves immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Borisov face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Graves follows up with a right hand that knocks Borisov into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Deon Graves!
After winning the bout, Deon Graves thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
