PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 23789 p4p, 23773 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 43 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 38 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salvacion.

Amiga shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Salvacion is trying to defend but Amiga finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga is keeping busy.
Salvacion is controlling Amiga's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Salvacion actively working from the bottom here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Salvacion flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Salvacion is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Amiga jumps into side control!
Amiga takes a little break here. Salvacion wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
You can see the frustration on Salvacion's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Amiga decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Salvacion is positioning himself well to prevent Amiga advancing to mount.
Amiga seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Amiga throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Salvacion preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Salvacion trying to hold on to Amiga's head to control him but Amiga postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gakus Amiga dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Amiga darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Salvacion wants to improve his position but Amiga is controlling well.
Amiga performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion trying to hold on to Amiga's head to control him but Amiga postures up.

Salvacion is holding on to half guard well.
Amiga content to control rather than advance.
Salvacion desperately trying to maintain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Amiga takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Nice sprawl there from Salvacion as Amiga shoots in.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Salvacion looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Amiga!
Salvacion just content to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion wants to control but Amiga is keeping him busy.
Amiga being controlled for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Salvacion working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
A lull in the action here as Salvacion stalls from top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Helen Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Horrible takedown attempt by Salvacion or perhaps it was just good defense by Amiga, which made it look bad.
Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.
Amiga fakes the leg kick and cracks Salvacion in the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Amiga.
Salvacion tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Amiga wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Salvacion struggling a bit here.
Amiga controls the position from side control.
Amiga is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Salvacion can do to turn this around?

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Amiga is standing up over Salvacion. Salvacion looks to escape but Amiga dives into side control.

Salvacion parries the strikes from Amiga easily there. Amiga is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Salvacion to escape.

Salvacion is trying to escape the position but Amiga is controlling the position.
Salvacion struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gakus Amiga showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Amiga has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
