PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23763 p4p, 23697 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 29 - 43 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 32 - 40 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Nada tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kiang swivels and escapes. Kiang quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. Kiang dives in for a single leg takedown but Nada sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Nada flicks out a counter leg kick but Kiang steps away. Kiang is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nada pulls him back up using the underhooks. Nada has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Kiang is trying to keep an underhook but Nada manages to get the takedown into half guard. Nada missing with the ground and pound from half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kiang has his hands clasped together around Nada's back. He's all about the action. Nada prevents Kiang from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nada perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Nada not landing any meaningful shots this time. Kiang wants to control but Nada is keeping busy.
Nada stalling.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Kiang stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kiang wants it to stay on the feet. Kiang half committed to a counter leg kick. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Kiang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nada circles away. Nada thinks about the counter body kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kiang tries for a takedown but Nada sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A nice side step and Nada releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nada is defended easily by Kiang.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nada shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Nada defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kiang. Nada throws a fast counter high kick but Kiang manages to duck under it in time. Horrible takedown attempt by Kiang or perhaps it was just good defense by Nada, which made it look bad. Nada appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Kiang closes the distance and clinches up with Nada, looking for a takedown. Kiang pushes Nada against the cage but Nada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kiang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nada. Kiang fires out a quick counter leg kick but Nada just manages to avoid it. Kiang fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Nada tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kiang defends well and Nada ends up having to push Kiang into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kiang shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nada manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Way Nada dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Nice sprawl there from Kiang as Nada shoots in. Nada leaves Kiang with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Nada has his takedown stuffed and Kiang counters with a good, hard body kick but Nada shrugs it off. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kiang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kiang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee asks Kiang politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kiang prefers to stall for the moment though. Kiang working away. Kiang moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Nada darts in looking for a takedown but Kiang gets double underhooks and turns Nada into the cage. Kiang is looking for a counter combo. Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada. Nada looking to score a takedown here. Kiang is defending well but Nada drives through and ends up in Kiang's guard. Kiang keeping moving, preventing Nada from controlling successfully. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Kiang controlling Nada's posture. Nada controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nada wants to control from the top but Kiang keeps moving. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nada controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Yawa Kiang dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round! Nada with a poor takedown and Kiang counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Nada! You can see the frustration on Nada's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kiang taking a breather here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. A lazy body kick from Kiang and Nada counters with a body kick that stops Kiang in his tracks momentarily. Kiang fails with a takedown attempt. Nada follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nada throws a push kick but Kiang slaps the foot to one side. Nada defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kiang. Nada is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Kiang with a body shot. Nada looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Kiang manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Nada fails with the takedown and Kiang counters with a body kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kiang fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kiang takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
And that's the end of the fight! Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round. I think Kiang has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
