Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bernard Hopkins Jr!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hopkins Jr on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Cotto rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Hopkins Jr to counter with a crisp jab.
Hopkins Jr keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cotto.
Hopkins Jr looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hopkins Jr with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cotto to score with a decent uppercut.
Hopkins Jr avoids the body shot from Cotto.
Cotto misses with a shot to the body
and Hopkins Jr counters with a stiff right hand.
Cotto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Cotto misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hopkins Jr.
Hopkins Jr loads up on a big right hand but Cotto slips the punch.
Cotto takes a jab right on the kisser.
Cotto throws a poor cross that misses
and Hopkins Jr counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Cotto throws a nice looking combination but Hopkins Jr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Cotto swings widly with a right hand
and Cotto takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hopkins Jr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cotto.
Hopkins Jr swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Hopkins Jr closes the distance and catches Cotto with a lead hook that drops him to the canvas! Cotto is clearly dazed and struggling here! 3,4,5,6,7 and Cotto is up to his feet but the referee has called it off! Cotto is still far too wobbly and he's not going to allow the fight to continue! Hopkins Jr takes it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Bernard Hopkins Jr!
Bernard Hopkins Jr decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
