Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Griffin (ranked 1851 p4p, 2822 weight class) and Gene Wonder (ranked 273 p4p, 384 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew Griffin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gene Wonder! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffin has his takedown stuffed and Wonder counters with a nice low kick that buckles Griffin's knee momentarily. Wonder circles away from the clinch attempt and Wonder counters with a nice uppercut. Griffin looks to land a combination but Wonder avoids it well. A little jabbing left from Wonder on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Griffin swings for the body but Wonder moves out of range.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wonder! But no joy. Griffin throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Wonder counters with a left to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wonder circles away from the clinch attempt and Wonder makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Griffin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wonder swats him away and circles back towards the center.
That's one minute gone in the round. A clash of legs there as Wonder blocks the low kick. A countering left hand to the body from Wonder misses. Wonder keeps the fight on the outside. Griffin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wonder manages to avoid it. Wonder looks like he wants to counter punch here. Griffin tries to land a body kick and Wonder counters with a nice double leg into side control. Griffin won't be happy with that. Griffin is trying to get back to his feet. Wonder tries to advance to mount but can't. Griffin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Griffin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wonder on the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wonder scores with punches from side control. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Wonder working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffin is trying to get back to his feet. Wonder wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working. Wonder is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Griffin will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Wonder tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Griffin is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Wonder in side control, just content to control the action for now. Wonder has hold of Griffin's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Griffin tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Wonder cranks the arm and Griffin screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Griffin, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Gene Wonder!
