PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Emory Majors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying James's choice of entrance music: California Girls - The Beach Boys. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James moves in looking to clinch but Majors pushes him off.
Majors avoids the head kick by James.

James wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Majors has him pressed against the cage.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Majors shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Majors keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.

James gets caught flat footed, as Majors shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Majors controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
James is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Majors decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on James, up you get!
Majors shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Majors keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Majors throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around James's waist but James gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Majors off to one side.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Majors closes the distance and clinches up with James, looking for a takedown. Majors pushes James against the cage but James circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Majors shoots in but no luck this time.
James throws a head kick but Majors moves out of range.

Majors is breathing heavily.
James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
Majors wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
Majors postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
James is trying to control the position but Majors postures up.

Majors gets to his feet. James looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Majors misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Majors fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. James sprawls well initially but Majors persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.

Horrible takedown by Majors or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.

James gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Majors decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

James controls Majors momentarily but Majors frees himself.

Majors closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Majors seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down James for as long as he can get away with.

Majors takes a little break here. James wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
James prevents Majors from improving position.
James seems a little lost for a moment, as Majors dominates the positioning.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Majors has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Majors decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Majors shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Majors was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Majors. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Emory Majors just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Majors tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The ground and pound from Majors seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Majors working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
James is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
James tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Majors is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Majors bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Majors stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Majors shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Donnie James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Emory Majors is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Majors with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Emory Majors showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Majors, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
