PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23624 p4p, 23645 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Walay Buut enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 40 - 8, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 33 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buut throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mibangon's waist but Mibangon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Buut off to one side.
Mibangon jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Buut closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mibangon quickly recovers to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Buut with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Mibangon wants to control but Buut is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mibangon is doing well to control the position and prevent Buut from advancing to side control.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

and Buut counters with a body kick that stops Mibangon in his tracks momentarily.

Mibangon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Buut engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Buut is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buut won't allow Mibangon to sweep him here.
Buut is stalling in the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mibangon shoots in and bounces Buut off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Buut shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mibangon defends it nicely.
Mibangon throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
It appears Mibangon was looking to counter with a kick there.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mibangon drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mibangon wants to pass the guard but Buut is keeping the position.
Mibangon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Buut seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mibangon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Buut closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Buut is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Buut accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mibangon shoots in looking for a takedown. Buut tries to sprawl out of it but Mibangon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Buut manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mibangon shoots in for a takedown but Buut shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Buut dives in and scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.

Mibangon has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Buut slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Buut being controlled here momentarily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Buut controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Mibangon controlling the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Buut missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mibangon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mibangon staying calm.
Mibangon wants to control but Buut is keeping him busy.
Walay Buut has got the better of the ground game so far.

Buut is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mibangon is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Buut will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Walay Buut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Buut has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
