Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Peterson (ranked 3805 p4p, 4874 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peterson comes to the cage accompanied by Berzerk by Eminem. The crowd seem to be enjoying Velasquez's choice of entrance music: MMA Entrance Music / Cain Velasquez. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 14 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Peterson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cain Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Peterson.
Peterson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Velasquez misses with a jab, cross combination.
A head kick misses from Velasquez. Peterson blocks a head kick by Velasquez.
Peterson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Velasquez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Peterson was covering up waiting for the punch and Velasquez finishes the takedown easily into guard. Peterson pushes Velasquez off and scrambles back to his feet.
Peterson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. This has been an exciting period of action! Velasquez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Peterson.
Velasquez tries to counter with a clinch but Peterson shakes him off and moves away. Velasquez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Peterson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Peterson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Velasquez. Velasquez obviously looking to wear him down.

Velasquez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Peterson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Velasquez counters with a three punch combo that has Peterson backing up. Peterson nods at Velasquez to acknowledge the strikes. Peterson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Velasquez to score an easy takedown into full guard. Peterson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velasquez's guard. Velasquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Velasquez is looking for a triangle but Peterson pushes his legs off easily.
Velasquez can't keep his opponent in guard - Peterson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. We've been hearing that Peterson has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Velasquez is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Peterson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Peterson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Peterson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Peterson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Peterson stands up and beckons Velasquez to join him on the feet. Velasquez connects with a body shot that sends Peterson's belly button to the back. Velasquez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Peterson.
Peterson throws a sloppy head kick and Velasquez moves out of range easily. Velasquez is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Velasquez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Peterson circles away. Velasquez swings for the body but Peterson moves out of range.
Peterson shoots for a double leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Peterson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Peterson sets himself, and Velasquez steps forward looking for the clinch! Peterson avoids it this time. Peterson feints and as Velasquez raises his hands in defense, Peterson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Velasquez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Peterson presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Velasquez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jake Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Velasquez. Peterson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Velasquez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Peterson's waist but Peterson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Velasquez off to one side. Peterson slaps away a takedown attempt from Velasquez, before circling back to the center of the mat. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Velasquez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Peterson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Velasquez drives through with a takedown into Peterson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Peterson pushes Velasquez off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Velasquez is defended easily by Peterson.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Velasquez wants to clinch. Peterson tries to bum rush Velasquez with a series of wild strikes but Velasquez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Peterson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Velasquez avoids it really well and circles away. Peterson clinches up against the cage. Peterson is working for takedown but Velasquez is calmly controlling the position for now. Velasquez goes for a takedown attempt but Peterson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Velasquez tries to clinch but Peterson moves out of range. Peterson throws a right and a left that both miss. Velasquez looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Velasquez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Peterson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Velasquez presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Peterson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Jake Peterson's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Velasquez stuffs the takedown. No luck for Peterson with that takedown attempt. Jake Peterson is winning the standup battle so far. A head kick misses from Peterson. Sloppy strikes from Peterson. Those never looked like landing. Peterson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Peterson darts in and clinches Velasquez up against the cage. Peterson has Velasquez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Velasquez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Peterson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Peterson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Peterson is looking for a takedown. Velasquez fails to pull guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Velasquez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Velasquez feints a jab promting Peterson to slip. Velasquez then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Peterson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Peterson drives through with a takedown into guard. Peterson is standing up over Velasquez. Velasquez looks to escape but Peterson dives into side control.
Jake Peterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velasquez tries to bench press Peterson off him but Peterson keeps the position. Peterson works to advance to full mount. Velasquez defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Velasquez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Velasquez wants to control but Peterson is having none of it. Velasquez working to try and regain half guard.
Peterson lands a big shot there that rocks Velasquez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Peterson has isolated one of Velasquez's arms. Velasquez looking to fight him off but Peterson twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
