Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gordon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dharya Bhate!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bhate's guard.

Bhate throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Bhate avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Bhate looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Bhate is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.
Jones throwing shots but Bhate is blocking nicely.

Jones is looking for a kimura but Bhate is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jones to get the leverage.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bhate keeps working.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones is working for a submission of some sort.
Jones not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Bhate looking for submissions off his back.

Bhate actively working from the bottom here.
Bhate blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jones.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jones sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bhate defending well though.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bhate keeps working.
Jones is really struggling to control Bhate but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.
Jones trying to control from half guard but Bhate is working away.
Bhate felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Jones is controlling the pace.
Bhate blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jones.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bhate has managed to free his arm - good work.
Jones trying to control the action but Bhate is working from the bottom.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Bhate has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Jones moves into full mount! Bhate won't be happy about that!
Jones looking to control but Bhate is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Jones lands a big elbow.
Bhate regains half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Bhate is trying to get back to full guard.

Bhate is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily.

Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jones is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bhate tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Bhate gets full guard.
Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jones wants to control from the top but Bhate keeps moving.
Jones keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bhate's head.

Bhate is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Bhate wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bhate keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Jones is posturing up here but Bhate has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Jones tries to roll out but it's too tight and Jones has to tap! Slick submission there by Bhate!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dharya Bhate!
