The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. No luck for McDonald with that takedown attempt. McDonald scores with a takedown into Kofel's guard. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. McDonald controlling from the top position. McDonald controls Kofel momentarily but Kofel frees himself.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. McDonald can't keep his opponent in guard - Kofel advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Kofel is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McDonald doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kofel. McDonald is trying to maintain the position but Kofel is very close to passing his half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Kofel looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

And that's the end of the fight! McDonald wins on points by 11 to 2. A determined David McDonald didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it! |
